March 10, 2020Stretch marks or striae are usually appear on abdomen, love handles, thighs and arms due to a rapid growth of body usually due to pregnancy, growth spurs, and obesity. They usually appear as a result of skin separation at the level of epidermis and upper part of dermis. All efforts by our experts is focused on re-epithelialization of skin around the separated areas using state-of-the art technology.
At Texas Institute of Dermatology, San Antonio Aesthetic Clinic, our experts utilize both knowledge and latest laser technology to treat stretch marks and developed a unique system called iStretch-Free ™. We offer a comprehensive treatment package for treatment of stretch marks (striae).
When you come for an iStretch-Free ™ consultation, the stretch marks will be carefully examined by a dermatologist with years of experience in successful treatment of stretch marks. The dermatologist will then design a plan specifically designed for your stretch marks to achieve the best results. For our experts, every stretch mark is different. Therefore our approach for treatment of stretch marks may differ from one to another hence the secret to successful treating most, if not all of stretch marks. iStretch-Free ™ may include Juvashape radio-frequency, RF Pixel, Fractional Co2 laser, AFT light treatment, PRP (platelet-rich Plasma) and micro-needling. Depending the complexity of striae, several procedures may be utilized for successful treatment of stretch marks.
According to Dr. Ghohestani who has years of experience in treating stretch marks using iStretch-Free ™, creams such as Mederma or Bio-Oil has no proven efficacy in treatment of stretch marks. Mederma cream claims to be derived from onion and Bio-oil is made of several oil such as rosemary oil, lavender oil, chamomile oil, vitamin A, and Vitamin E.
There is no any double blinded clinical trial showing advantage of using these topicals for stretch marks versus placebo. Therefore, using the Mederma cream or Bio-oil is not recommended for treatment of any stretch marks at the present time. Moisturizing the skin during the growth spurs is, however, recommended.
